Regina International Airport is embarking on an ambitious journey to revolutionize its network infrastructure. The ServiceTec team is leading the project, which began in June with the wireless network, and will see the wired network follow suit at the end of July. This is a testament to the airport’s commitment to technological advancement and operational efficiency.
The decision to replace all Cisco network hardware with Extreme Networks’ solutions is a strategic move towards a more unified and manageable network. This includes the replacement of core and edge switches, as well as all access points, with Extreme Networks’ state-of-the-art equipment. ServiceTec’s site manager, Trevor Allen, worked closely with the Regina Airport Authority to understand the current and future needs in order to build a forward-looking network architecture that will meet the current expectations but also be scalable for future innovations.
The primary goal of this network transformation is to achieve a unified management solution that reduces complexity and supports technical staff of varying expertise levels. By doing so, Regina International Airport aims to:
- Enhance the user experience for both staff and travelers.
- Streamline network management processes.
- Foster a more agile and responsive IT environment.
The ServiceTec team is responsible for the design, configuration and installation of all wired and wireless networking equipment. Both wired and wireless projects will be running in parallel for the remainder of the year. The team attended lift and safety training to acquire their scissor and aerial platform certifications to aid in the deployment of the wireless access points throughout the airport campus.
The Unified Management Platform will provide a single pane of glass for network operations and will enable the ServiceTec team to manage the network with greater ease and precision. The new network architecture is designed to be inherently less complex, making it more accessible to technical personnel across the team. With a focus on ease of use, the new network will facilitate more efficient troubleshooting and maintenance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
Extreme Networks’ solutions are built to scale, allowing Regina International Airport to adapt its network infrastructure as it grows and evolves.
The network transformation at Regina International Airport is not just an upgrade; it’s a strategic reimagining of how the airport’s IT infrastructure can drive operational excellence. By transitioning to a more unified and simplified network management system, the airport is poised to enhance its service delivery, ensuring a seamless experience for all its users.
