I ended my last newsletter article with the words “overall, as we start our new financial year – and the second half of 2022 calendar year – I’m feeling optimistic about the coming year and look forward to having plenty of good news to share with you all.”
The past few months have not disappointed!
Depending upon how you look at it, we either ended last financial year, or began this one, by winning JFKT7 with Collins. This is significant because it is the first piece of new business we have won with Collins since LAX T2, back in 2014, and, although the preferred route to market for North America is ‘direct with the airport’, we do still work with the integrators when there is a benefit to doing so. Our team started working onsite in early December (which is why we’re counting it as this year!).
How do you follow that sort of start? With another win!
In July, we received a message from a consultant – well known to us, and well-renown within the industry, but not someone we have ever done business with – asking us to reach out to the recently appointed CIO of Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO). Of course, we responded and had an introductory call on 8th July. In what has got to be the quickest ‘first enquiry directly from an airport to onsite business start’ (with signed contract) in the history of our airport business, we started work onsite on 6th September, less than 2 months later.
August was a period of relative calm – lol – merely agreeing renewals/extensions at our long-standing sites of MSP and OAK. SLC had, thankfully, already extended during July so we could get rebadged.
In September, we headed to MSP for the annual ACI-NA Conference and Exhibition – and showcased our new booth.
The purple shirts were our tribute to the late ‘artist former known as Prince’ who was one of Minnesota’s most well-known celebrities.
Andy, David and myself were also able to make site visits, and hold team events, in DEN and MSP en route to ACI – always good to get those back on the schedule now Covid-19 vaccination is widespread and the risks of getting people together significantly diminished. (Personally, I hate having needles stuck in me – but I’m even worse at being ill – which is why I’ve already had 5 Covid shots).
Back to the business. As I write this, we have a few more sites that we are transitioning into an onsite team, more renewals/extensions going through and this could prove to be the best year yet for adding ‘dots to the map’ – as I referred to in July, I bought a bigger map when we moved into the new offices in Herndon, I guess my Business Development team accepted the challenge!
With growth comes opportunity – and ServiceTec has always been very keen to develop the potential of our own people. It is good to see a number of promotions happening within SLC, which has the advantage of being a large site, but, if you may be willing to relocate for a step up (although one essential is that you must currently be eligible to work in the relevant country) please keep an eye on our website and have a word with your manager. Also, remember our referral incentive – if you know someone suitable for a position, ask them to apply and say who referred them. Finally, don’t forget TalentLMS – that is an investment made by ServiceTec for your benefit and they keep adding new courses, which may enhance your skills.
As we end 2022 and look forward to 2023 – which will be my 25th year with ServiceTec (yikes!) – I’d like to wish you all Happy Holidays and us all a successful 2023!
